Creighton Women's Golf Signs Berrian and Rickel
OMAHA, Neb. – Head coach Debbie Conry announced on Thursday of a pair of young women that have signed to pursue their education and continue their golf careers at Creighton University.
Joining the Bluejays will be Katie Berrian (Castle Rock, Colo. / Regis Jesuit HS) and Darby Rickel (Spokane, Wash. / Lewis and Clark HS).

"I am really looking forward for both Darby and Katie to join the women's golf team," said Conry. "They are both great young ladies. They are very committed to golf and their academics. Both ladies will represent Creighton University in a great way!"

Katie Berrian
- Four-year letterwinner at Regis Jesuit High School in Aurora, Colo., who is currently a senior.
- Third place finish in the 2019 Colorado 5A State Championships, shooting a 1 over round of 73.
- As a sophomore, finished third at the CHSAA 5A State Championships in the spring of 2018.
- Claimed 16th place as a freshman during the CHSAA 5A State Championships in 2017.
- Katie's high school play earned her a spot on the Colorado All State First Team awarded by CHSAA in both 2018 and 2019.
- Won the Colorado Junior Amateur Championship in July of 2018 and placed second in 2019.
- Finished seventh at the Colorado Junior PGA Championship in June of 2018, shooting rounds of 79, 81 and 82.
- Was the 2019 Colorado Community Media Girls Golfer of the Year.
- Won six of the nine high school tournaments during junior season with an average of just over 72 per round.
- She finished in first place in 5A Western Regionals, matching her lowest career score of 67 (-4).
- Shot a 1-over par, 73, at the Class 5A state Tournament finishing third.
- Earn First Team All-State during her sophomore and junior seasons.
- In the high school invitationals, she had one other win with an even par round of 71, a second place finish and a fifth place finish.
- Katie is also an active participant in the Junior Golf Alliance of Colorado and has been since she was 9 years old.
- Has also participated in numerous national/international events including AJGA, North/South Junior, Women's Western Junior, and the Optimist International Junior Golf Championship held in South Florida each July.
- Also is a competitive dancer.
- Is a three-time Academic All-State selection who has excelled academically with a current cumulative GPA of 4.33.
Darby Rickel
- Attends Lewis and Clark High School in Spokane, Washington.
- Earned First Team All-Greater Spokane League during junior season in 2019 as she recorded three different first place finishes.
- Owned a 10-stroke victory in the Washington Junior District Championships.
- Finished in the top-four in 17 different events in 2019.
- Owned a stroke average of 75.3 in the summer of 2019.
- Took third at the 2019 Idaho State Championship and seventh at the Washington State Junior Championships.
- Placed fourth at the Pacific Northwest Junior Championship in stroke play, advancing to the second round of match play in the championship bracket.
- Placed first at the District 5 Sub-District #3 with a round of 72 and finished first at District 5 Sub-District #2 with a 73.
- Finished seventh at the WJGAÂ State Championships during junior year with rounds of 74, 75 and 76.
- Shot an average round of 76.73 during junior season of high school, a five stroke improvement from sophomore season (81.70).
- Finished atop the leaderboard at the District 5 Sub-District #3 and #4 with rounds of 78 and 77.Â
- Two-time team MVP of high school team, helping the Tigers advance to the state championship each year.
- First Team All-Greater Spokane League in softball as a center fielder, earning LCHS's Most Inspirational Player award.
- Played varsity soccer during her freshman and sophomore years.
- Also played junior varsity basketball during her freshman year, taking home LCHS Most Inspirational Player acclaim.
- Participated in track and field, as well.
- Owns a 4.3 weighted GPA.
- Her dad, Brad Rickel, is the head women's golf coach at Gonzaga.
