Omaha, Neb. -- Creighton women's soccer head coach Ross Paule continues to add to his 2019 class as the Bluejay leader garnered a commitment from Lauren Harkes (Fairfax, Va.) as a graduate transfer from Clemson and signed Daphne Nierop (Amsterdam, Netherlands) to begin her Creighton career.
Lauren Harkes
A redshirt during the 2016 season, Harkes is a 5-8 midfielder that served as the Tigers' team captain in 2017 and 2018. She appeared in 43 matches, including eight starts, over three seasons with Clemson. Harkes played a combined 1,341 minutes for the Tigers (727 minutes during the 2018 season), scoring one goal as a freshman in 2015 and notching an assist in 2018. Prior to Clemson, Harkes played varsity soccer for Bishop O'Connell for four years, attending the US Soccer National Training Center camp in 2010-2011. A two-time All-Met First Team selection and two-time All-WCAC First Team honoree, Lauren played club soccer for McLean 96 in Elite Clubs National League from 2011-2015. Soccer runs deeply throughout the Harkes family as both her moth and father played at Virginia and her brother, Ian, played at Wake Forest. Her father, John, played for the United States National Team from 1987-2000, while Ian is currently playing professionally for Dundee United.
Daphne Nierop
At the age of 15, Nierop made her official debut for the Dutch national U15 team. The same year she was selected by CTO, a Dutch Development Program for the most talented players of the country, practicing six times a week, playing in a boys league and playing friendly matches against women's teams of the highest league. Two seasons ago she transferred to VV Alkmaar and is currently training at AJAX Amsterdam. Daphne graduated high school at the Johan Cruyff College (special school only for Elite athletes) in Amsterdam in June 2018. In addition she completed her official trainer UEFA C License and the personal trainer A license in her last year and is now the coach of the KNVB U11 and U12 girls. During the summer of 2018, she competed in the U19 European Championships in Switzerland.
