Creighton Women's Basketball Faces Butler in BIG EAST Tournament on Sunday

Omaha, Neb. -- Looking to avenge a regular-season sweep by the three seed Butler, the Creighton women's basketball team faces the Bulldogs in the final quarterfinal BIG EAST Tournament games on Sunday, March 10. The contest is scheduled to tip at 8:30 pm (CT).

Series with Butler: Creighton Leads 8-6
For the third time in six seasons as members of the BIG EAST, Creighton and Butler will tangle in the BIG EAST Championship. Each team has a 4-2 edge in the series on its home floor, but the Bluejays have claimed each meeting in the conference tournament. Both this season and in 2014, Butler took both regular season meetings. Creighton will hope to continue that pattern as the Bluejays earned the win in the BIG EAST Tournament meeting in 2014.

Historically the Bluejays have entered a conference tournament two other times, in 2000 and 2007. The first time Creighton earned the six-seed, the Bluejays dropped its opening game to Missouri State (72-53). In 2007, however, the Bluejays went all the way to the MVC Championship game with victories over Indiana State (69-65) and Illinois State (59-56). Creighton eventually fell to Drake in 65-64 in a thrilling overtime contest.
In BIG EAST play the Bluejays will face Butler for the third time in the BIG EAST Tournament. In 11 games at the BIG EAST Tournamen, the Bluejays have faced six of their nine conference foes.

Greene Returned for Senior Day Against DePaul
Junior Ali Greene returned and started for Creighton in her final home game as a Bluejay on Sunday against DePaul. Athletically a junior, Greene is in her fourth season as a Bluejay and plans to graduate following the fall 2019 semester. Greene was forced into retirement four games into the 2018-19 season by a torn meniscus and accumulations of injuries to her right knee. The Minnesota native scored four points and grabbed five rebounds in 15 minutes on the court.
