Women's Tennis Wraps Up 2019 BIG EAST Championship Trip With 4-0 Loss To DePaul

CAYCE, S.C. -- The seventh-seeded Creighton women's tennis team fell to second-seeded DePaul, 4-0, on Saturday during the 2019 BIG EAST Championship quarterfinal round. The Bluejays and Blue Demons concluded their match that was started on Friday before heavy rain suspended play.
Creighton ended its spring season at 9-13.
The two teams started doubles play on Friday afternoon but did not finish any matches before inclement weather halted action.
DePaul earned the first point of the day on Saturday with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles positions. Creighton's Erin Epperson and Gabby O'Connor held a 5-5 tie during the No. 2 match but did not finish.
The Blue Demons ended the match with straight-sets singles victories at the bottom three slots and lost only six combined games during those matches.
The Bluejays claimed first-set victories at each of the top three singles positions. Ashley Ishimura won 6-4 in the opening frame during at No. 1, Sarah Wilcox earned a 7-5 first set victory at No. 2 and Michaela Henne battled for a 6-4 win at the No. 3 position.
"It was great to see our top three take the first sets today and I'm just disappointed that we didn't play well enough down below to make it more of a match," head coach Tom Lilly said. "I'm proud of the way this team fought all year and we are going to miss our three seniors who have done a lot of good things during their careers."
Saturday marked the final match for Creighton seniors Claire Embree, Michaela Henne and Ashley Ishimura.
