Women's Tennis Earns ITA All-Academic Team and Scholar-Athlete Awards

Eight individuals from the women's team earned scholar-athlete awards
TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Creighton women's tennis teams claimed a 2019 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team award and eight individuals from the women's team earned scholar-athlete awards, the ITA announced on Thursday.
The women's team posted a 3.60 GPA in the spring semester and a 3.71 mark in the fall. Meredith Benson, Claire Embree, Erin Epperson, Laura Higueras, Ashley Ishimura, Kendra Lavallee, Gabby O'Connor and Sarah Wilcox each earned recognition as scholar-athletes. In addition to its ITA award, the women's tennis team claimed its eighth consecutive APR Public Recognition Award in May.
Creighton's eight scholar-athletes were the most among the BIG EAST women's tennis programs.
This year the ITA saw an increase in qualifying teams and scholar-athletes. All-Academic honors were awarded to 940 teams and thousands of scholar-athletes.
All-Academic teams boast a team GPA of 3.20 or higher. ITA scholar-athletes must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
