Women's Tennis Continues Play At Drake Invitational, Higueras Advances to Flight D Final

Laura Higueras advances to Sunday's Flight D Singles Championship
DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Creighton women's tennis team continued play at the Drake Invitational on Saturday at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
Laura Higueras earned two victories to advance to the Flight D Singles Championship, Meredith Benson advanced to the Flight C Single Consolation Draw final, and Higueras teamed with Julia Aguirre for a Flight B Doubles consolation draw semifinal victory.Â
Higueras outlasted her South Dakota opponent in straight sets during the quarterfinals, including a tiebreaker in the second frame before dropping only three games in a straight-sets win during the semifinals. Higueras will square-off against UNO's Lilliam Tiemeyer on Saturday at 10 a.m. for the Flight D championship.
Benson defeated Nebraska-Omaha's Savanna Cowell, 6-2, 6-1 to advance to the Flight C consolation draw finals match. The Bluejays sophomore will face Augustana's Grace Goble on Sunday morning.Â
Aguirre and Higueras earned an 8-6 win in the Double Flight B consolation draw to move into a Sunday match against a pair from Augustana.Â
Kate Krueger finished the day with one win and one loss and will compete for third place on Sunday morning.Â
Overall, the Bluejays ended Saturday 5-6 in singles action.Â
