Katie Allen Named BIG EAST Women's Golfer of the Week

OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton sophomore Katie Allen has been named BIG EAST Women's Golfer of the Week, an honor that comes two days after she won the Loyola Fall Invitational.

She is the first Bluejay to be honored by the BIG EAST with a weekly award since Amelia Lee on March 28, 2019.

Allen, who became the program's first tournament champion since 2005, helped CU to a fourth-place finish on Tuesday at the Loyola Fall Invitational, which was held on a Flossmoor Country Club course that measured 6,101 yards and was a par 73 layout.

The Phoenix, Ariz., native brought a four-shot lead into Tuesday's final round after opening with rounds of 72 and 74 for an even-par 146 total on Monday. She never surrendered the lead during the final round, holding off Kayla Krueger (Valparaiso) and Haeri Lee (Drake) after shooting a 78 on Tuesday, to become CU's first tournament champion since Leigh Sutton won the 8th Annual Springlake Classic in March of 2005.

Allen's 224 total is tied for the seventh best 54-hole score since 2003, while her opening round 72 was one shy of her previous collegiate low (set Sept. 9 at the MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial). Allen is now CU's only golfer since 2003 with multiple rounds of par or better in the same season, and matches Sarah Eversman (2014-18) with two rounds of par or better in her Bluejay career since 2003.

Allen, who now owns three consecutive top-10 finishes dating to her final competition of the spring, is the first Bluejay to do that since Celeste Gassman in 2011-12.

Creighton returns to the course on Sept. 23-24 at the Spirit Hollow Invitational in Burlington, Iowa.
