Only doubles action took place on Sunday because of rain
DES MOINES, Iowa -- Daniel Lopez-Rey and Jose Oscar Diaz combined to claim the Flight C Doubles championship as the Creighton men's tennis ended its stay at the Drake Invitational on Sunday morning.
Only the doubles draws of the invitational were completed because of rain throughout central Iowa region on Saturday and Sunday.
Lopez-Rey and Diaz went 2-0 to complete the clean sweep of the Flight C bracket after their opening round victory on Friday.
Luke Moorhead and Joe Hoff also combined to finish without a loss in Flight D and went 2-0 on Sunday, but the draw broke apart in order to get more play after multiple injury defaults.
Diaz was scheduled to play in the Flight C singles championship on Sunday, but weather limited play to only six indoor courts because of rain. Only singles matches were played on Saturday.
Stratton Brown and Armando Gandini each the weekend 3-0 in Flight B singles action, while Lopez-Rey and Huff both went 3-0 in Flight D singles. Moorhead also advanced to the Flight E matchup after pool play.
"Overall this was great competition for our guys and we won a lot of very close matches," head coach Tom Lilly said. "We have a very veteran team so being able to focus and not get flustered in big moments is something we should expect from our team this year.
To have six in the singles finals and four up against each other is tremendous given the format and level of play."
