Head coach Johnny Torres is in his first year at the helm of the Bluejays after spending 12 years as an assistant coach.
Scouting Green Bay (1-5-2)
The Phoenix have lost five consecutive matches and are without a victory since a 3-1 win against Western Illinois on Sept. 1.
Six different players have each scored one goal a piece.
Fredi Ortega paces the squad with three points from one goal and one assist.Â
The Phoenix were shut out in four straight matches before scoring one goal on Saturday at IUPUI.Â
Green Bay owns a 1.75 goals against average as a team.Â
Head coach Jeremy Bonomo is in his fifth season at the helm of the Phoenix.
Series History Against Phoenix
Creighton leads the all-time series against Green Bay, 3-0-0.Â
All three of the previous matches have been in Omaha, most recently in 2007.
The Bluejays have outscored the Phoenix 13-0 during the previous meeting.
Tashiro Named BE Offensive Player of the Week
Yudai Tashiro earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors, the conference announced on Monday afternoon.
The Tokyo, Japan native had a game-winning goal and two assists during the Bluejays' 2-0 week, which included a 4-3 double overtime victory against Tulsa and a 1-0 shutout of Villanova.
Tashiro scored the golden goal during the 106th minute against Tulsa. The senior blasted a shot into the top of the net from six yards out off an indirect free kick. He also had an assist on Creighton's first goal against the Golden Hurricane. The victory against Tulsa marked the Bluejays' first overtime win since 2017.Â
On Saturday, Tashiro had the first assist on Charles Auguste's game-winning goal during the ninth minute against Villanova.
Tashiro's four-point week tied for the highest mark across the BIG EAST.Â
Musa Qongo also earned a spot on this week's Weekly Honor Roll. Qongo had three assists, including the game-winning cross against Villanova.Â
Six In September
With the Bluejays 1-0 victory on Saturday against Villanova, Creighton ended the month of September with a record of 6-2, including 5-1 at Morrison Stadium.
The Bluejays tallied their seventh season with six or more wins during the month of September since 2003.
Creighton's five wins at Morrison during September matched the most by the squad. The Bluejays also had five wins at Morrison during the month of September in 2015, 2011 and 2004. Â
Two Consecutive BIG EAST Shutouts
Creighton earned a 1-0 shutout against Villanova on Saturday night for the Bluejays' second shutout in two BIG EAST matches.
The Bluejays have earned shutouts during the first two games of the BIG EAST schedule now three different times (2019, 2018, 2013).Â
Creighton tallied three consecutive shutouts to open its BIG EAST slate last season.
The most BIG EAST shutouts the Bluejays have had in a single season is four, during both the 2018 and 2014 campaigns.
Goals, Goals and More Goals
Creighton outlasted Tulsa 4-3 in double overtime on Sept. 24, as the Bluejays and Golden Hurricane combined to tie a Morrison Stadium record with seven combined goals.
Creighton defeated Drake 6-1 in 2017 and the Bluejays downed Central Arkansas 6-1 in 2006 during the other two times a combined seven goals were scored at Morrison (opened in 2003).Â
Tulsa's three goals also tied the most by a Creighton opponent at Morrison (also Saint Louis, 2012; Indiana, 2010; Tulsa, 2007).
The Bluejays' victory against Tulsa also marked the first time Creighton won a home game while
allowing three or more goals since a 5-3 win against Evansville on Nov. 9, 2001.Â
A total of 22 goals have been scored during six matches played at Morrison Stadium this season. Only 20 goals were scored during 11 matches at Morrison Stadium last season.Â
An average of 3.7 combined goals have been scored, which would break the previous best mark of 3.3 goals per match, set in 2004.Â
A total of 43 goals have been scored during 13 combined men's and women's matches at Morrison Stadium this year, which is the most since 2017 when 51 were scored during 17 matches.Â
Bluejays Reverse Overtime Woes
Creighton notched a double overtime victory on Sept. 24 against Tulsa for the Bluejays' first overtime victory since Sept. 19, 2017 (also against Tulsa).Â
Creighton entered the match winless in its last seven overtime matches (two losses, five ties), including all five last season (0-2-3).Â
The Bluejays are just 5-9-14 during overtime matches since joining the BIG EAST in 2013.
Luke Haakenson Season-High Goal TotalÂ
Senior Luke Haakenson already has four goals this season, which is a new individual season-high during his four-year Bluejay career.
Haakenson tallied three during each of the past two seasons.Â
He also owns two game winners this season, which also matches his game-winner total during each of 2018 and 2017.Â
The Maple Grove, Minnesota native currently owns 11 career goals as a Bluejay, including six game-winning tallies.Â
