Women's Basketball Faces St. John's in Annual Pink Game on Friday

Omaha, Neb. -- With four of the final six BIG EAST games coming at home, the Creighton women's basketball team will battle St. John's on Friday night in the annual Pink Game to support breast cancer awareness.

St. John's Leads Creighton, 10-9
The Bluejays and Red Storm have developed a strong rivalry in the short time Creighton has been part of the BIG EAST. The two teams have met five times in the post-season, with the Bluejays going 1-4 in those meetings with the Red Storm. Creighton is 3-3 at DJ Sokol Arena against St. John's dropping the meeting last year, 51-45.

Despite starting BIG EAST play 6-3, the Red Storm have hit a bump in the road lately. St. John's has dropped three out of their last four contest including a tight 66-64 overtime loss at Villanova.
Starting four guards, the Red Storm are averaging just under 74 points per game. St. John's has three players averaging double figures per game, led by senior Quadashah Hoppie's 16.7 ppg and Correra's 12.0 ppg.
Defensively the Red Storm are still strong at pressuring the ball, but have lapsed on the glass this season averaging just 34.3 rebounds per game.

Scouting Creighton (15-8, 7-5 BIG EAST)
Coming off a big 77-68 win at Providence behind a career-high 38 point performance from senior Jaylyn Agnew, the Bluejay are setting up for a strong finish to BIG EAST play. The Bluejays sit in the middle of the packed in the BIG EAST, with a chance to climb a few spots with wins in the remaining games. Â
Four Bluejays average double-figures with Agnew leading the way with 19.9 ppg. Juniors Temi Carda and Tatum Rembao have consistently provided a spark pulling in 13.1 ppg and 10.7 ppg respectfully. Senior Olivia Elger has continued to elevate her level of play over the last few weeks upping her scoring average to 10.2 ppg.
Like recent Bluejay squads, Creighton lives by the three and lets it fly. In the Bluejays 77-68 win at Providence, the Bluejays made a season-high 16 three-pointers. Creighton currently is ranked 12th with 203 made trifectas
averaging 8.8 made three-pointers a game.

Agnew Dials Up Third 30-Point Game This Season
Senior Jaylyn Agnew was lights out in the Bluejays 77-68 win at Providence last weekend, dropping a career-high 38 points on 14-of-21 shooting, including a 7-of-11 marksmanship from behind the arc.
Agnew's 38 point outburst was her third 30-point game of the season becoming only one of three players within the BIG EAST (male or female) to crack 30-points in three or more games. (Markus Howard - 10 Games and Myles Powell - three Games).
Jaylyn's 38-points also ranks 17th national and 2nd in the BIG EAST for most points scored in a game. Villanova's Madison Siegrist dropped 41 points on La Salle back on Dec. 21st. Â
Agnew Leads the Nation in Free Throw Shooting Percentage
Among her 38-point performance at Providence, Agnew went 3-for-3 to extend her streak to 32 consecutive free throws. The three from the charity stripe also moved Agnew into the top spot in the nation this season at 93.3% (56-of-60).

Pink Gear Auctioned Off to Benefit Hope Lodge Omaha
Women's basketball fans are encouraged to wear pink to promote cancer awareness on Friday, Feb. 14th.
Bluejay players will wear pink shooting shirts and pink jerseys for the game and the first 1,000 fans entering the venue will receive a complimentary pink t-shirt courtesy of Methodist Health System and CHI Health. Complimentary "Pink Out" posters will be available to fans exiting the venue after the game.
Following the game the Bluejays will present jerseys and shooting shirts to donors, entering the contest on Friday the Bluejays have raised over $4,000 with all funds raised will be donated to the Hope Lodge Nebraska.
Road Weary Bluejays Shake Off Jet Lag in Win at Providence to Give Coach Flanery a 77-68 Birthday Win
The annual trip to Rhode Island was more difficult this season as mechanical issue canceled the Bluejays initial flight out of Omaha. The resulting dominoes forced the travel party to split into three groups, with the first two arriving at the hotel in Providence after midnight for a game at noon. The third group, comprised of staff only, were forced to stay in Chicago overnight, before arriving at the Providence gym at approximately 10:30 am. Despite the travel wear and tear, the Bluejays gave head coach Jim Flanery a 77-68 win on his birthday.
Agnew 38-Point Performance Earns Fifth BIG EAST Player of the Week
Agnew snagged her fifth BIG EAST Player of the Week nod after scoring a career-high 38 points in Creighton's 77-68 win at Providence on Saturday. The fifth weekly honor this season for Agnew gave her the most of any Bluejay in a career, all five of her coming this seasons.
The other four Bluejays with four career weekly honors are:
Laura Spanheimer (2001-05), Christy Neneman (2000-04), Becky Flynn (1992-96) and Shannon Struby (1990-94).
Agnew Inks Her Name in History with Sixth Highest Single Game Point Performance
Senior Jaylyn Agnew's career-high 38 points at Providence placed her in a tie for sixth place for most points scored in a single game. The Creighton record for points in a game is held by Connie Yori at 42 points, that coming at Iowa State on Dec. 12, 1982.

Keys To the Game
- Ball Security: In the first battle the Bluejays committed 12 turnovers, leading to 14 Red Storm points. St. John's had 10 turnovers which led to nine points.
- Winning the Post Battle: Neither team gives a lot of touches to the post, but in New York, St. John's got six points from Emma Nolan in 16 minutes. The Bluejays got just three from Gracey Griglione and Mykel Parham in 11 minutes. In addition the Red Storm outscored Creighton 30-16 in the paint. Another key area the posts contribute to are offensive boards and second chance points. In New York, Creighton grabbed 10 offensive rebounds to eight for St. John's. The Bluejays won the second chance category, 5-3.
- Closing the Game: The two teams were deadlocked at 55-55 with 2:35 remaining in the first meeting. That game saw St. John's scored six straight to claim a 61-55 edge with 25 seconds left.
