Guided by 16 Treys, Women's Basketball Clips Seton Hall 78-66

Omaha, Neb. -- Locked in a physical battle with Seton Hall, the Creighton women's basketball team returned to their roots as the Bluejays 'Let it Fly' with 10 of their 16 three-pointers in the second half to pull away and claim the 78-66 win over the Pirates on Sunday, Feb. 16th.
The win pushed the Bluejays to 16-9 on the season and 8-6 in BIG EAST action, while Seton Hall fell to 16-10 overall and 9-6 in conference play.
A back-and-forth opening quarter saw each the squads battle through five teams, while each team led by as much as three. Seton Hall closed the period with the final four points to carry a 15-14 edge into the second.
Down 24-21 midway through the second, the Bluejays began to find measure out their long range shooting. Sophomore Tatum Rembao connected first with a trey from the right wing, then senior Jaylyn Agnew drained back-to-back trifectas to give Creighton a 30-24 lead with 1:44 remaining. Seton Hall responded with six straight in under a minute for the ninth tie of the afternoon, but sophomore Rachael Saunders connected from long range herself, putting the Bluejays up 33-30 (0:35). At halftime the Bluejays took a slim 34-32 edge into the locker room.
Coming out of halftime the Bluejays got a lift from sophomore Gracey Griglione as the Iowa native delivered a layup to open the frame, then connected moments later from long range to key an 8-2 run for Creighton, pushing the Bluejay lead out to 42-34 (7:20). Creighton maintained the separation for the rest of the frame, extending their lead to as much as nine (51-42 with 2:35 left) and took a 53-47 lead into the fourth quarter.
Leading 56-51 advantage with 7:17 showing on the clock, a trio of three-pointers from Creighton pushed the Bluejay lead into double-figures. Once more it was Griglione to ignite the Bluejay run, the Bluejay center connected from the top of the key. Following a Seton Hall layup, Rembao and Agnew each knocked down found their range to make it 65-53 (5:14). After another Pirate bucket, Griglione delivered a second-chance bucket. Moments later Agnew connected from long range, giving Creighton its largest lead of the game at 14 (70-56) with 3:33 remaining. The Bluejays held a double-digit the rest of the way as Creighton nailed seven treys in the fourth quarter alone, led by three from Rembao.
Agnew was her usual dominant self with a game-high 28 points and nine assists, while Rembao closed the game with 20 points. Two additional Bluejays finished in double figures with 12 points coming from Carda and 10 more by Griglione. Seton Hall got a team-high 19 points from Mya Jackson in the loss.
The Bluejays return to the hardwood on Friday, Feb. 21st as Creighton faces Butler in Indianapolis at 6:00 pm (CT).
