Women's Basketball Falls at Butler, 76-61

Indianapolis, Ind. -- The Creighton women's basketball team suffered a 76-61 loss at Butler on Friday, Feb. 21st as the Bulldogs shot better than 50% from the field in the contest (28-of-55).
The loss dropped the Bluejays to 16-10 on the season and 8-7 in BIG EAST play, while Butler moved to 18-8 overall as 10-5 in conference action.
Leading the contest 8-7 (6:20) early in the opening quarter, Creighton found itself on the wrong side of a 12-0 Butler run over the next 5:57, trailing 19-8 before a driving layup from junior Temi Carda broke the Bluejay drought.
Down 23-13 with 6:21 remaining in the half the Bluejays made it a two possession game as sophomore Rachael Saunders connected on a driving layup, then senior Olivia Elger splashed home a shot from long range to make it 23-18 (4:23). Butler responded with 11 straight points. A fade away jumper from Saunders in the closing seconds sent the game to halftime with Creighton down 34-20.
The third quarter began with a three-pointer from senior Jaylyn Agnew, but Butler extended its advantage to as much as 23 points at 54-31 with 3:18 left in the frame. Creighton closed the quarter with a 9-4 burst, including four from Agnew, but went to the fourth down 58-40.
The final stanza saw the Bluejays draw within 12 (66-54) but no closer, dropping the season series to the Bulldogs.
Carda led the Bluejays with 18 points, while Agnew finished with 14 and Saunders delivered 11. Butler got a game-high 20 points from Kristen Spolyar, while Genesis Parker had 19 points and Naira Caceres finished with 14.
The Bluejays return to the court on Sunday, Feb. 23rd as Creighton faces Xavier at 1:00 pm (CT).
