Bluejay sophomore earns third All-America honor this month
It's the third All-America honor in the last 10 days for Zegarowski, who also garnered Second Team All-American by NBC Sports on March 10th and Third Team All-America accolades by Stadium on Tuesday.
A Hamilton, Mass., native, Zegarowski averaged 16.1 points, 5.1 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game for Creighton in the recently-completed 2019-20 campaign. He shot 48.8 percent from the field, 42.4 percent from three-point range and 76.3 percent at the charity stripe. Zegarowski played his best in some of CU's biggest games, averaging 18.9 points per game while shooting 60.4 percent from the field and 51.4 percent from three-point range in eight games against top-25 foes.
Zegarowski ranked third in the BIG EAST in assists per game (5.1), third in three-point percentage (.424), fifth in assist/turnover ratio (1.95), sixth in three-pointers made per game (2.42), sixth in points per game (16.1), sixth in minutes per game (34.6) and 11th in field goal percentage (.488). The point guard was also named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team.
He is the 11th different player in program history to be named an All-American by the Associated Press. Those 11 men have combined for 19 honors, including three-time honorees Paul Silas, Rick Apke and Doug McDermott. McDermott remains the only three-time First Team All-American by the AP since Patrick Ewing and Wayman Tisdale in 1983, 1984 and 1985.
Creighton finished the season 24-7 and earned a share of its first BIG EAST regular-season title on March 7 in win vs. No. 8 Seton Hall that saw Zegarowski make 5-of-5 three-pointers and score a game-high 23 points.
First Team All-Americans included All-BIG EAST guards Myles Powell (Seton Hall) and Markus Howard (Marquette), as well as Dayton's Obi Toppin, Oregon's Payton Pritchard and Iowa big man Luka Garza.
