Five Women's Golfers Named as WGCA All-American Scholars

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. -- Creighton University had five women are among 1,401 collegiate golfers recognized by the Women's Golf Coaches Association as All-American Scholars. The Bluejay honorees include freshmen Claire Orcutt and Gabby Tremblay, sophomores Katie Wilson and Katie Allen, and junior Margaret Hickey.
Creighton's five honorees were tied for the most in the BIG EAST with St. John's, two shy of the Division I lead, and tied for 19th-most nationally.
Hickey was recognized for the third consecutive year, while it was the second such honor for Allen. It's the first award for Wilson as well as both freshmen. All five women owned a spot on the Creighton Dean's List in both semesters during the recently completed 2019-20 academic year.
Hickey is a junior from Glencoe, Ill., who ranked third on the club with a 79.06 scoring average in 2019-20. That figure has been topped by just five Creighton players in the past 18 seasons.
A Phoenix, Ariz., native, Allen owned a scoring average of 77.94 during her sophomore campaign, which ranks as the third-best single-season scoring average by a Bluejay in the last 18 years.
Wilson's sophomore campaign saw her average 82.87 in 15 loops, with a low round of 75. She hails from Scottsdale, Ariz.
Tremblay made an immediate impact upon arriving on campus, leading CU with a 77.29 scoring average. That figure is the program's best single-season mark on the record books in history, and helped her finish in the top-15 in each of her final five tournaments.
Orcutt hails from Mankato, Minn. Her 83.50 scoring average in 14 circuits was tied for sixth on the squad and featured three rounds in the 70s.
The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50. The Bluejays are coached by Debbie Conry. The women in the program own a cumulative GPA of 3.71. The women's golf team GPA of 3.84 in the spring 2020 semester was the best of any Bluejay team for one semester in the last 20 years.
