Bluejays are in AVCA poll for 11th straight week
OMAHA, Neb. -- Nine straight wins and an NCAA-best 26 victories have helped the Creighton Volleyball team improve its standing on a national level with less than two weeks until the NCAA Tournament bracket is unveiled. The Bluejays improved one spot to 12th in the seventh edition of the official version of the RPI released by the NCAA, and climbed two spots to 21st in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association poll.
The changes come after Creighton (26-3, 14-2 BIG EAST) hammered Georgetown and Villanova on the road last weekend, outscoring the Hoyas and Wildcats 150-86. Creighton's 26 wins, 11 true road wins, 17 wins away from home and 81 set victories all lead or share the national lead this fall.
The Bluejays, who have been as high as No. 16 this season in the AVCA poll, have now been ranked in each of the last 11 weeks and 88 times in program history. That figure ranks tied for 47th-most in history. CU's all-time best ranking in program history is No. 7, which came in the poll released on Aug. 28, 2017. Creighton is 140-34 all-time when playing as a ranked team in the AVCA poll, including a 63-9 mark in home matches. This is the 10th straight season that Creighton has spent at least one week in the top-25, extending another program record.
Marquette remains just outside the top-25 in the AVCA poll, coming in fourth among those "also receiving votes". The Golden Eagles are 23-4 overall and own an RPI of 14.
Creighton closes the regular-season this weekend with home matches vs. Seton Hall (Friday, 6:30 pm) and St. John's (Sunday, 1 pm). Two wins would guarantee the Bluejays at least a share of an eighth straight BIG EAST regular-season title and the No. 1 seed in next week's BIG EAST Volleyball Championship, presented by JEEP, which will be hosted by Marquette.
