Volleyball To Appear in 14th Straight NCAA Tourney; Host Northern Colorado

OMAHA, Neb. -- The 12-time defending BIG EAST champion Creighton Volleyball team will appear in the NCAA Tournament for the 14th straight season, and 15th time overall, when it hosts Northern Colorado (17-15)Â on Thursday, Dec. 4. The field of 64 was announced on Sunday evening on ESPN.
The No. 3 seed in the Kentucky Region, Creighton (25-5) will host the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament for the seventh time in program history, and fifth straight year. Utah (15-14) and No. 6 seed Northern Iowa (25-5) will square off on Thursday in a 4:30 p.m. match at D.J. Sokol Arena inside the Wayne and Eileen Ryan Athletic Center, with Creighton and Northern Colorado to follow approximately 30 minutes later. The winner of Thursday's contests will meet in the Second Round on Friday, Dec. 5 at 6:30 p.m. Central, also at D.J. Sokol Arena.
Creighton clinched an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament with a 3-0 win against Xavier on Nov. 23 in the title match of the 2025 BIG EAST Championship to earn its sixth straight league tournament title and 11th in the past 12 seasons.
Creighton had four women earn All-BIG EAST honors, led by BIG EAST Player of the Year Ava Martin (4.43 kps., 0.42 saps., .328%) and BIG EAST Setter of the Year Annalea Maeder (10.66 aps., 0.44 saps.). Kiara Reinhardt (2.51 kps., 0.98 bps., .435%) and Jaya Johnson (2.35 kps., .275%) also landed All-BIG EAST acclaim. Abbey Hayes (1.86 kps.) earned a spot on the BIG EAST's All-Freshman Team. The Bluejays are led by Brian Rosen, who is 25-5 in his first year at the helm.
CU ranks third nationally in aces per set (2.25) and 12th in attack percentage (.292). The Bluejays have won 20 straight matches overall this season and are 44-1 in their last 45 matches inside D.J. Sokol Arena. Creighton has played the nation's second-toughest strength of schedule and is third in the country with 13 Top 50 RPI wins this fall.
Creighton and Northern Colorado last met in 2013, with Creighton owning a 3-1 advantage in the series. CU defeated the Bears last year in an exhibition match in Omaha, as well.
Creighton was one of a record-tying three teams in the BIG EAST to earn a spot in the field of 64. Xavier heads to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2007 when it battles Michigan in a pod that begins on Friday in Pittsburgh, Pa. Marquette earned an at-large bid and will make its 14th trip to the NCAAs in the last 15 season when it faces Western Kentucky in a pod that begins on Friday in Louisville, Ky.
Creighton is 11-5 against teams that are in the 2025 NCAA Tournament field, going 3-0 against Marquette, 2-0 vs. Kansas and Xavier and 1-0 against San Diego, Northern Iowa, Rice and South Florida. The Bluejays went 0-1 against Nebraska, Texas, Louisville, Penn State and USC.
