Women's Basketball Drops Pink Game to Providence, 60-48

Omaha, Neb. -- The Creighton women's basketball team dropped a 60-48 decision to Providence in the annual Pink Game on Wednesday, Feb. 10.
The loss dropped the Bluejays to 4-8 on the season and 3-5 in BIG EAST play, while Providence moved to 6-8 overall and 4-5 in conference play.
After falling behind 4-0 early in the opening quarter, the Bluejays used a 5-0 run to take their first lead of the game on a layup from freshman Emma Ronsiek and a trey by junior Gracey Griglione. Down 8-7 moments later another 5-0 burst on a three-pointer from freshman Morgan Maly and a layup by sophomore Carly Bachelor. Providence, however, closed the first quarter on a 9-0 run to hold a 17-12 edge.
A low scoring second saw the Bluejays connect on just three shots, finishing 3-for-13 in the frame (23.1%) and heading into the locker room down 29-21.
Throughout the second half Creighton was unable to break through for a run, getting within nine (47-38) in the closing moments of the third.
Down 51-38 early in the fourth, Creighton used a 6-0 run to trim the deficit down to seven at 51-44. The Friars, however, closed the Bluejay window with seven straight.
Seniorn Temi Carda led Creighton with 15 points in the contest. Providence, meanwhile, got a game-high 17 points from Chanell Williams and a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds by Mary Baskerville.
Creighton returns to the court on Saturday, Feb. 13 in a road contest at Seton Hall.
