Women's Golf Finishes Eighth in First Meet of Season

Bluejays hadn't competed in nearly 365 days
LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- Playing its first tournament in nearly a year, Creighton women's golf team finished eighth at The Jackrabbit Invitational on Tuesday in Las Vegas.
CU's top performers in scoring average a year ago, freshman Gabby Tremblay and sophomore Katie Allen shared the team lead in the 2020-21 season-opener as both women tied for 29th place after a 241 total. Tremblay started with consecutive 79's before an 83 in the final round. Allen had an 81 and 82 on Monday before authoring the program's lowest round of the week with a 78 on Tuesday. Allen's 241 total was eight shots better than her showing at the same event last season, when she tied for 58th place.
True freshman Katie Berrian made her Bluejay debut by tying for 43rd place with a 252 total. Rounds of 85 and 86 on Monday preceded an 81 on Tuesday.
Junior Margaret Hickey tied for 45th with rounds of 83, 85 and 86 for a 254 aggregate and sophomore Kristin Goertz rounded out the Creighton contingent with loops of 88, 93 and 89 to take 51st place.
Tournament host South Dakota State won the tournament by 21 shots over Gonzaga with an 897 total. The Jackrabbits also owned the top two individuals in medalist Teresa Toscano (71-78-69=218) and Cassidy Laidlaw (78-72-70=220). Nine teams and 53 golfers competed in the event, which was the first for the Bluejays since competing in the same tournament on March 9-10, 2020 before the season was abruptly canceled due to COVID-19.
Creighton is back on the course on March 15-16 in Springfield, Mo., at the MSU Spring Invitational.
