Espeleta, Ronneberg Named To CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 First Team

Espeleta earns second academic all-district honor
OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton men's soccer's Daniel Espeleta and Jake Ronneberg each earned spots on the 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 First Team, the organization announced on Thursday morning.
Espeleta, a neuroscience major, owns a 3.56 cumulative GPA. The midfielder appeared in all 12 matches during the spring of 2021. The San Jose, Costa Rica native made seven starts and totaled four points from one goal and two assists. Espeleta's goal came as a game-winner at Xavier (March 24). The junior also earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors in 2019, becoming the eighth player in program history to earn Academic All-District honors twice.Â
Ronneberg, a finance major and Heider College of Business Dean's fellow, boasts a 3.75 cumulative GPA. The sophomore started all 12 games for the Bluejays at the midfield position. Ronneberg scored two goals and had one assist. Both of the Illinois native's goals came against Marquette, including the game-winner during Creighton's season opener in Milwaukee (Feb. 20).Â
The 2020-21 Academic All-District® Men's Soccer Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early July.
