Women's Soccer Hits the Road to Face Tulsa on Thursday

Omaha, Neb. -- Creighton women's soccer hits the road for the first time in 2021, beginning a pair of matches in Tulsa this weekend against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane on Thursday, Aug. 26 at 8:00 pm. The game will be available online the ESPN+ platform.
In road opening matches the Bluejays are 14-17-1 in program history, while Creighton is 2-4-0 under head coach Ross Paule.

Series History: Bluejays Trail Tulsa, 4-2
Creighton and Tulsa have met six times previously with Tulsa holding a 4-2 edge. The last meeting came in 1999, a 2-1 win in overtime for the Golden Hurricane in Omaha (Sept. 3, 1999).
Four of the six battles have come in Tulsa, with Creighton claiming the last two road matches.

Second Time in Three Seasons Bluejays Open 2-0-0
For the second time in the last three seasons, Creighton women's soccer opened the season with a pair of victories at home. The Bluejays also opened 2-0-0 with home victories over Kansas State and South Dakota State in 2019.
The best beginning to a year under head coach Ross Paule came in 2016 as the Bluejays posted three results to begin the year, going 2-0-1.
The last time Creighton began a season with at least three victories came in 2014 as the Bluejays started the campaign 7-0-0.
Scouting Tulsa (0-2-0)
The Golden Hurricane suffered consecutive 3-0 losses during the opening weekend, dropping a pair of neutral site contests in Stillwater, Oklahoma to Pittsburgh and Texas-San Antonio.
In both contests Tulsa surrendered two goals in a short time frame. Pittsburgh took a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute (16:18), then pushed to a 2-0 edge in the 20th minute (19:56). Texas-San Antonio notched its second goal in the 67th minute (66:05), then its third in the 68th (67:54).
Despite going scoreless in its opening matches, Tulsa had opportunities. The Golden Hurricane took 22 shots in the opening weekend, matching Texas-San Antonio 16 to 16 in shots taken.
In goal Tulsa has an experienced netminder as Kansas State graduate transfer Emma Malsy played every minute in the first two contests. She recorded 10 saves, including six against Pittsburgh.
Scouting Creighton (2-0-0)
With 10 of 11 starters back from a squad that reached the BIG EAST Tournament for the first time in 2020, the Bluejays have raised expectations for 2021.
Through two matches the results are showing the high expectations to be correct. Moved into the top of the formation, freshman Abigail Santana has delivered goals in both of the Bluejays contests.
The season opening win over Montana put Creighton's youth on display as freshman Abigail Santana and Hailey Rothwell punched in the goals. A quartet of assists came from freshman Greta Betz and Atkinson (Santana's) goal, while freshman Maddie Radke and Kardovic earned a helper on Rothwell's.
The win over Drake saw Cristina Garriga deliver the game-winner, while Santana added insurance early in the second half.
Creighton out shot its opponents 41-15 in the two victories this week.
Defensively Keelan Terrell posted her second career shutout in the win over Drake. Terrell has notched five saves in a pair of victories.
