Atkinson Serves Three Assists to Power Women's Soccer to 3-0 Win at Oral Roberts

Rothwell Tallied Two Goals in the Win!
Tulsa, Okla. -- Juniors Ansley Atkinson and Jordy Rothwell stepped forward with three assists by Atkinson and two goals from Rothwell to lead the Creighton women's soccer team to a 3-0 win at Oral Roberts on Sunday, Aug. 29.
The victory pushed the Bluejays to 3-1-0 on the season, while Oral Roberts fell to 2-1-1.
Creighton seized the advantage in the 25th minute, taking advantage of a corner. Atkinson lofted a ball perfectly into the middle of the box, finding Rothwell amid a group. The Wisconsin native sent the ball into the lower right corner for the Bluejays' first goal with 24:20 showing on the clock.
In the 61st minute it was almost a replay as Atkinson and Rothwell converted a second corner from at the 60:40 mark.
Atkinson continued to find her teammates, setting up freshman Alyssa Judkins for her first collegiate goal in the 65th minute (64:08) for the Bluejays' final tally.
The three assists by Atkinson was the first time a Bluejay tallied at least three helpers in a single match since Mary Zapapas did so against Southern Utah on Oct. 18, 2009.
"Anytime you get three assists in one match, its special," said head coach Ross Paule. "Ansley has the ability to change the game at any time by controlling the run of play or creating scoring chances. Today's performance is something she will remember for years to come."
Creighton dominated play throughout the match, holding a 25-11 edge in shots and a 8-6 advantage on corners.
Creighton returns to the pitch in Morrison Stadium on Thursday, September 2nd as the Bluejays host South Dakota at 7:00 pm.
