Women's Tennis Opens Bluejay Invitational With 10 Victories

Rain forced a lengthy delay on Friday
OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton women's tennis team collected 10 wins during the first day of its home Bluejay Invite on Friday at the Koch Family Tennis Center.
The Bluejays tallied three doubles victories and seven in singles as one round of doubles and one round of singles were completed during the opening day of the event.
Kate Krueger and Malvika Shukla combined for a 7-6 win, Sarah Wilcox and Emma Gener claimed a 6-2 victory and the duo Gabby O'Connor and Meredith Benson combined for a 7-5 win in doubles.
All seven singles wins came in straight-sets for the Creighton women. Wilcox and Krueger each earned wins in Flight A singles, Gener and Valerie Negin claimed victories in Flight B, Siri Kongara and Shukla each came out on top in Flight C and Benson won a first-round match in Flight E.Â
Friday's action included a rain delay that lasted nearly three hours.Â
Creighton is hosting individuals from Omaha, Northern Iowa, Augustana, Nebraska-Kearney and St. Thomas for this weekend's invitational.
Day two of the Bluejay Invite is slated to begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday morning.Â
