Women's Soccer Delivers Three Goals in Second Half to Down Jackrabbits, 3-0

Omaha, Neb. -- The Creighton women's soccer team exploded for three second-half goals to defeat South Dakota State 3-0 on Sunday, September 5.
With the win the Bluejays moved to 4-1-1 on the season, while the Jackrabbits fell to 5-1-0.
Sophomore Abigail Santana broke the scoreless battle in the 48th minute (47:46) with a give-and-go with senior Cristina Garriga. Santana raced into the box, sending a pass to Garriga along the right side of the box. Garriga sent it back across the box to Santana for a goal from eight yards.
Creighton added insurance goals in the 73rd minute and the 90th minute. Each goal was assisted by senior Ansley Atkinson as she found junior Renée Pountney and Santana for goals.
Pountney delivered the second goal as Atkinson raced across midfield, sending a perfect pass ahead to the right for Pountney. The Australian native raced into the box, beating SDSU goalkeeper Jocelyn Tanner to the left.
The final tally saw Atkinson find Santana in similar fashion to the second goal, beating defenders up the middle of the pitch she found Santana along the right side of the box for her second goal of the day.
Creighton out shot South Dakota State 21-5 in the contest. The Jackrabbit first shot came in the 44th minute, breaking a streak of over 155 minutes (155:10) without a shot by the Bluejays' defense.
The shutout victory was Creighton goalkeeper Keelan Terrell's third consecutive and fourth on the season. She is in the midst of a scoreless streak of better than 293 minutes (293:20).
Creighton's victory over the Jackrabbits broke SDSU's streak of 22 games without a loss (17 in 2020 with a 12-0-5 record and five this season).
The Bluejays return to the pitch on Thursday, September 9 as Creighton hosts North Dakota State at 7 pm.
