Lanahan and Gandini Advance To Round of 32 Doubles With Victory on Thursday at ITA Central Regional

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Matthew Lanahan and Alejandro Gandini continued their hot-streak with a first-round doubles victory on Thursday at the ITA Central Regional, hosted by Arkansas.
Lanahan and Gandini advanced to Friday's round of 32 with an 8-7 (7-2) tiebreaker win against Drake's Matthew Clegg and Reid Jarvis.
Graduate student Oscar Alvarez and freshman Kirtan Patel also advanced to the round of 32, earning a bye in the first round.
In singles play, senior Casey Ross rolled to a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Drake's Olle Sonesson Lidholt, before falling to Oklahoma State's Alessio Basile in the round of 64.
Patel captured a 6-3 win in his opening set of singles play but dropped the second and third sets, 6-2, 6-3, to Drake's Markus Bolin to fall to the consolation bracket. Lanahan also secured a 7-6 (7-5) first set win before falling to Oral Robert's Ignacio Vinas, 6-1, 6-2 in sets two and three.
Junior Shin Inoue dropped his opening set against Oklahoma State's Allen Leighton, 6-1, but evened the match with a 6-4 win during the second frame. Leighton, however, claimed the victory with a 6-1 win in the third set to advance to the round of 64.
"Both our doubles teams competing this morning played very well at times," said head coach Tom Lilly. "It was great to see Matthew and Alejandro come from behind to win after going down 6-3. Unfortunately, the opposite happened to Shin and Casey, who were up at break. We had disappointing singles results today; dropping a trio of three setters and a few other opportunities just slipped away."
The Bluejays continue play at the ITA Central Regional on Friday morning with doubles action.
