FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Creighton men's tennis continued play, securing four victories, during day two of the ITA Central Regional on Friday at the Billingsley Tennis Center in Fayetteville, Ark.
Two Bluejay duos competed in the doubles Round of 32, while five individuals competed in the consolation bracket of singles.
Matthew Lanahan and Alejandro Gandini picked up their sixth straight doubles win with an 8-7 (7-4) victory over Omaha's Mikhail Korkunov and Bryan Kuntz advancing to the Round of 16. Unfortunately, Lanahan and Gandini's run came to an end with an 8-5 setback to Oklahoma's Jordan Hasson and Mark Mandlik.
Graduate transfer Oscar Alvarez and freshman Kirtan Patel had their doubles run ended with an 8-4 loss to Drake's Matika Matic and Oliver Johansson.
Shin Inoue, Alvarez, and Patel each won consolation single matchups as Alvarez and Patel advanced to Saturday's consolation singles round of 16.
Inoue opened the day with a 6-3, 6-3 straight-sets win over Nebraska's Will Gleason, before dropping a 6-4, 6-3 decision to Wichita State's Luke Bracks in the round of 32.
Alvarez advanced to the round of 16 with a 6-4, 7-5 triumph over Oklahoma's Aiden Robinson, while Patel topped Oral Roberts' Eli Brewer, 7-5, 6-3, to continue his run.
Lanahan battled in his opening singles match but fell to Saint Louis' Sansh Kumar in straight-sets, 6-3, 6-4.
"Matthew and Alejandro held off four match points in the doubles to advance and had some chances against a strong Oklahoma team," said head coach Tom Lilly. "They had a nice run of six straight wins. I liked the way our guys competed in the singles as well today as we posted some good results."
Alvarez and Patel will return to the courts on Saturday morning with matches against Saint Louis' Theo Ortis and Ryota Fukushima.
