Bluejay Men's Soccer Faces Marquette in Road Contest on Saturday

Milwaukee, Wis. -- Entering the home stretch of the BIG EAST season, the Creighton Men's Soccer team heads into an important road match with Marquette on Saturday, October 22. The Bluejays and Golden Eagles contest is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m.
Series History: Series Tied, 9-9-1
Creighton and Marquette have faced off 19 times with each program earning nine victories. The lone draw in the series came in 2018 in Omaha. The Bluejays are 4-4-0 in Milwaukee against the Golden Eagles.

Scouting Creighton (5-3-5, 2-2-3 BIG EAST)
Down 1-0 in the first half against Butler (Oct. 19), the Creighton men's soccer team faced a crossroad. Either found a way to restore the scoring touch they had in the early season. Or face the reality of must wins in each of the final three matches to make the BIG EAST Tournament. The Bluejays chose the former as Creighton scored a goal to in the first and three in the second to claim the match.
It was the seventh time in 2022 that the Bluejays have posted three goals in a single half.
Junior Duncan McGuire leads the team and the BIG EAST with 22 points on 10 goals and two assists. Sophomores Owen O'Malley and Jackson Castro have each delivered seven goals and four assists for 18 points to rank second on the team and third in the BIG EAST. Sophomore Giorgio Probo brings a team-high seven assists, but has been bottled up since a penalty kick at Georgetown on Sept. 4.
Goalkeeper Paul Kruse has been solid throughout the season with a 1.48 GAA and 37 saves.
Scouting Marquette (4-8-3, 0-4-3 BIG EAST)
Marquette has struggled this season as the Golden Eagles last victory came on Sept. 20 against Milwaukee (W, 5-2). Marquette, however, has claimed all four of their victories at home. The Golden Eagles are 4-4-1 at Valley Fields.
The trio of Edrey Caceres, Lukas Sunesson and Abdoul Karim Pare lead Marquette with 14, 13 and 12 points respectively. Caceres has 14 points on four goals and six assists, while Sunesson and Pare each have a team-best five goals.
The Golden Eagles have split time in the net between Chandler Hallwood (nine matches) and Ludvig Malberg (seven matches). Each goalkeeper has allowed 14 goals this season.
Did Creighton's Offense Find Its Spark
After posting an impressive 23 goals in the non-conference portion (six matches) of the 2022 season, Creighton's scoring output has cooled in BIG EAST play.
In non-conference contests Creighton averaged 3.83 goals per match, while entering the contest with Butler the Bluejays had eight goals in six matches (1.33 per match)
After pulling even at 1-1 late in the first half, Creighton pushed across three goals in the second half to post a 4-2 win. Leading scorers Duncan McGuire, Jackson Castro and Owen O'Malley all delivered goals in the win.
The three goal output in the second half was the seventh time in 2022 that the Bluejay offense posted that number in a 45-minute window. The other six times came evenly spread out in victories over Oakland, Rutgers and Omaha.
