Men’s Tennis Claim Eight Victories During Day One of Bulldog Invite

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Creighton men's tennis opened play at the Bulldog Invite with eight victories on Friday inside the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
The Bluejays opened the afternoon with a 3-3 showing in doubles as Alejandro Gandini and Matthew Lanahan advanced to the semifinals with a pair of wins. Gandini and Lanahan defeated Omaha's Mikhail Korkunov and Daniel Green, 8-5, in their first match of the day before topping North Dakota's Nikita Snezhko and Gerhard Sullwald, 8-6, in the quarterfinals.
Shin Inoue and Zack Maline teamed up for an 8-5 win over Drake's Will Belvins and Will Ecklund in the Round of 32, but fell to North Dakota's Edmond Aynedjian and Cian McDonnell, 8-4 in the quarterfinal matchup.
The Bluejays also finished with an 5-2 mark in the first round of singles on Friday. Gandini advanced to the round of 32 by way of injury, while Kirtan Patel earned a 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 win over the Fighting Hawks Jayho Hong. Inoue also advanced after defeating Omaha's Davis Lawley, 6-2, 3-6, 10-7 in the first round of play.
The Bluejays wrapped up the first day of competition with a pair of wins by Lanahan and freshman Yuma Daijima. Lanahan captured a 6-2, 6-7 (8-10), 10-8 three-set win over North Dakota's Snezhko, while Daijima secured his first win as a Bluejay with a 6-4, 6-1 straight sets win over Omaha's Quintan Van Wiji.
Seecond round play in Des Moines is scheduled to start on Saturday morning.
