Gandini and Lanahan Capture Doubles Titles During Day Two of Bulldog Invite

DES MOINES, Iowa – Sophomore Alejandro Gandini and junior Matthew Lanahan claimed the doubles championship with a pair of victories as the Creighton men's tennis team continued play at the Bulldog Invite on Saturday inside the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
The duo of Gandini and Lanahan fought off match point and opened the day with an 8-7 (9-7) victory over North Dakota's Riley Odell and Drew Van Fossen, before claiming the doubles title with a quick 8-1 triumph over North Dakota's Edmond Aynedjian andCian McDonnell.
In consolation doubles play, Shin Inoue and Zack Maline paired up to take down the Fighting Hawk's Alex Petro and Jayho Hong, 8-3, before falling in the semifinals to Omaha's Hugo Piles and Davis Lawley, 8-7 (8-6).
Lanahan continued his run in singles play advancing to the quarterfinals with a 7-5, 6-7 (7-5), 10-4 thrilling win over Drake's Will Ecklund, but fell 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 in a quarterfinals matchup against McDonnell.
Oscar Alvarez, Yuma Daijima, Kirtan Patel and Inoue each secured win during singles play on the consolation side of the bracket on Saturday. Alvarez defeated Omaha's Daniel Green in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, while Daijima fought to a 4-6, 6-3, 10-2 win over Hong. Patel made quick work of Ecklund with a 6-0, 7-5 win, while Inoue closed out the day for the Bluejays with a 6-3, 6-3 straight sets win over Petro advancing to the next round.
Creighton will wrap up their stay at the Bulldog Invite on Sunday morning.
