Scouting St. John's (10-15, 6-9 BIG EAST)
Both of the Bluejays' opponents this weekend are far better than their record indicates. The Red Storm enter Friday's game at 10-15, yet have battled roster inconsistency throughout the season.
St. John's comes into the contest with Creighton having won four of its last five games.
In the first meeting with Creighton, St. John's was more than formidable. The Red Storm held an eight-point lead midway through the third quarter and the game was tied with just over three minutes remaining.
Leilani Correa and Kadaja Bailey combined for 48 points in the first meeting, with Bailey shooting 10-for-13 in Omaha.
Correa leads the Red Storm with 18.1 ppg, while Bailey brings 14.6 ppg. Three other players average over nine points per game, including Rayven Peeples (9.8 ppg and 9.5 rpg).
Defensively the Red Storm force better than 14 turnovers per game (14.4), but also commit 14.3 per game.
Scouting Creighton (18-7, 13-4 BE)
Facing a zone defense for the second consecutive game, Creighton was lights out from long range against Butler on Sunday, Feb. 13. The Bluejays knocked down a program record 22 treys going 22-of-49.
Creighton's ability to attack what their opposition offers is one of the greatest strengths of the program. The Bluejays have the ability to shoot from outside, but Creighton's leading scorer can pound the ball down low.
A trio of sophomore lead Creighton's offense, getting 14.3 ppg from Emma Ronsiek. Lauren Jensen (12.3 ppg) and Morgan Maly (11.8) are just behind.
Â
Creighton's biggest strength is their ability to share the basketball. The Bluejays lead the NCAA with 20.4 assist
per game and rank in the top-ten in assists as well as
assist-to-turnover ratio.

Players to Watch for Creighton
Bluejays Set Three-Point Record
The Bluejays not only set the Creighton record for three-pointers in their 96-49 win over Butler on Feb. 13, they also set the BIG EAST mark. Knocking down 22 three-pointers overall, the Bluejays hit nine treys in both the first and third quarters.
Creighton's previous high for trifecta was 18, set in a 83-71 win at Wichita State on Dec. 8, 2018. It also broke the BIG EAST WBB record (19), which was set just 11 days ago when Seton Hall connected 19 times against Georgetown on Feb. 2, 2022.
The mark crossed into men's basketball as well, breaking the Bluejay MBB record (also a BIG EAST high) of 21 treys against Villanova on Feb. 16, 2014.
One more record set in the game was the 49 three-point attempts, which broke the Creighton mark of 44 three-point field goal attempts set against Omaha on Dec. 5, 2018 and against Evansville on March 7, 2013.
Bluejays Deliver a Pair of 30-Point Quarters
In the win over Butler Creighton also posted just its fifth and sixth frames over 30-points, including the highest total for one quarter. Women's basketball moved to a four-quarter game prior to the 2015-16 season. Since that time the Bluejays best quarter (32 points) came in the third quarter at Drake on Dec. 3, 2017.

Keys To the Game on Friday, Feb. 18
- Rebounding: In the first meeting Rayven Peeples grabbed 13 rebounds, including six offensive. As a team the Creighton won the battle 32-29, but Peeples was a force. Â
- Controlling Bailey: Kadaja Bailey was 10-for-13 in the first meeting, finishing with 22 points. Creighton has to make Bailey work harder to get her shots.
- Ball Movement: Creighton finished with 24 assists, 12 by Tatum Rembao, in the first meeting. The Bluejays offense requires crisp passing. Â
Players to Watch for Creighton
- Payton Brotzki and Morgan Maly: Brotzki is expected to return to the lineup on Friday. Her return allows the Bluejays to resume roles they've had for most of the season. Maly's role for Creighton is to inject offense, her ability to help the second unit wear down the opponents.
