Bluejays Stay Blistering Hot, Sizzle Red Storm 107-59

Queens, N.Y. -- After setting the Creighton and BIG EAST records with 22 three-pointers on Sunday against Butler, the Creighton women's basketball team knocked down 20 treys in a 107-59 win at St. John's on Friday, February 18.
The win lifted Creighton to 19-7 on the season and 14-4 in BIG EAST action, while St. John's fell to 10-16 overall and 6-10 in conference play.
Creighton was firing on all cylinders from the jump, taking a 30-16 lead in the opening frame. Returning to the starting lineup after missing the last three games with a concussion, senior Payton Brotzki lit up the scoreboard with 11 points in the first quarter, while junior Carly Bachelor had seven points in the stanza. Leading 7-6 (7:18) Creighton seized control with an 18-4 run, ignited by a three-ball from Bachelor. Brotzki had a 8-0 run on her own, while sophomore Lauren Jensen capped the Bluejay surge with her first bucket, a trifecta to give the Bluejays a 25-11 lead with 1:21 remaining. Jensen added the final five points in the quarter for Creighton.
The Bluejays outscored St. John's 28-15 in the second, getting nine points from sophomore Emma Ronsiek to take a 58-31 lead into the locker room at the half.
Creighton tallied another 31 points in the third quarter, eventually pushing the lead to as much as 51 (106-55) late in the contest. Sophomore Jayme Horan and senior Rachael Saunders had 14 and 10 points respectively in the second half. All 11 Bluejays played at least 12 minutes in the game, while Jensen was a high-minute player at 25.Â
Seven Bluejays finished in double-figures led by 16 points from Jensen and Ronsiek. Bachelor, Horan and sophomore Morgan Maly delivered 14 points, while Brotzki and Saunders finished with 13 and 10 respectively.
St. John's got a team-high 12 points from Danielle Cosgrove in the loss.
As a team Creighton finished 42-of-67 from the field (62.7%), including 20-of-36 from long range (55.6%).
The Bluejays return to action on Sunday, February 20 at Seton Hall. The game is set to tip at 12:00 pm (CT).
