OMAHA, Neb. -- The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association has honored Creighton University for having some of the best GPA's for schools who compete in track & field. The Bluejay men led the nation with a 3.77 GPA, while the women were second with a 3.83 GPA.
It's the second time in 2022 that Creighton's been recognized by the USTFCCCA. In January, the Creighton men's cross country team was honored for having the top GPA in the country, while the women's cross country team tied for seventh for its program GPA.
While Creighton does not sponsor track & field at the BIG EAST level, Creighton athletes competed in full indoor and outdoor track seasons in 2022. It marked the first full track season for Bluejay men since 1962 and the first ever full season for the women.
The Bluejay men owned a nation-leading 3.77 GPA, finishing just ahead of Harvard (3.654), San Francisco (3.65) and Loyola University Chicago (3.6). The women's 3.83 GPA trailed only Portland State (3.85) and was just ahead of North Dakota (3.808) and Idaho (3.76). Creighton was the only school with a GPA of 3.75 on both the men's and women's side, and its combined GPA for both programs also led the nation.
Creighton had six men own a perfect 4.0 GPA in the spring, while seven women did so. All 12 females on the year-end roster finished with a GPA of 3.67 or better.
Overall, there were 236 women's teams and 171 men's programs that received All-Academic honors in NCAA Division I for the 2022 track and field season. The cumulative GPA for all student-athletes on the institutions NCAA Squad List for Indoor and/or Outdoor Track and Field must be a 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale to qualify for recognition.
The Bluejays are coached by Chris Gannon.
