Lily ranked as the No. 86 prospect in the class of 2022 by Extra Inning Softball
OMAHA, Neb. – Creighton softball head coach Krista Wood announced Monday the signing of Lily West, an Extra Inning Softball Top 100 recruit, for the upcoming season.
"Lily will make an immediate impact on this team with her work ethic and ability to be a leader," said Wood. "She is a versatile player being able to catch and play the infield. Offensively, she is a solid hitter that can hit for power. I have no doubt that Lily will thrive in the culture and environment that we will continue to build here at Creighton."
West, the No. 86 prospect in the class of 2022 by Extra Inning Softball, comes to Creighton following a successful high school career behind the plate at Choctaw High School in Oklahoma. While at Choctaw, West led her team to four straight Big 8 Conference championship and three consecutive Class 6A state tournament appearance, including a runner-up finish in 2022.
A four-time all-conference performer, West earned OSSAA First Team All-State honors after leading the Yellowjackets in batting average (.468), slugging (.575), on-base percentage (.501) and RBI's (32) as a senior. She was named the Big 8 Defensive Player of the Year as a junior, while also generating Class 5A/6A Large West All-Region and All-State honors as a catcher. West was also named the Big 8 and Class 6A All-District Offensive Player of the Year during her sophomore campaign.
"I chose Creighton because Coach Wood made me feel welcomed and like I was wanted," said West. "I love Coach Wood's outlook on life and the vision she has for this program. Once I stepped foot on campus, I absolutely knew that Creighton was the place I wanted to be. Not only for athletics, but I know I will be getting a top tier education as well. Creighton is an amazing place with so many opportunities and I can't wait to be here. GO BLUEJAYS!"
The Oklahoma standout played travel ball for the Oklahoma Angels '04 and most recently helped her team to a third-place finish at the USA Elite Select WFC. In the classroom, West is a member of the National Honor Society and has helped her team to two Class 6A Academic State Championships.
