Scouting Creighton (3-1-3)
In Creighton's three victories the Bluejays have posted 18 goals, delivering three goals in each half of those wins. However, in the other four matches the Bluejays have combined to tally six combined goals.
Senior Duncan McGuire leads the Bluejay offense with 14 points on six goals and two assists, but sophomores Jackson Castro and Owen O'Malley each five goals. Sophomore Giorgio Probo leads the BIG EAST with seven assists, a total that also puts him second in the nation.
Senior goalkeeper Paul Kruse has been spectacular with 13 saves in seven matches. He has limited opponents to eight goals in 554 minutes.
Scouting Georgetown (1-4-2)
A consistent powerhouse in the BIG EAST, the Hoyas have stumbled out of the gate in 2022. Georgetown enters the Saturday match with Creighton on a three-match losing streak.
The problem has been in goal for the Hoyas. Georgetown has used a trio of keepers this season, allowing 13 goals in seven contests. In the BIG EAST opener at St. John's it was grad student Ethan Koehler in the net. Koehler allowed three goals to the Red Storm on nine shots with one save. On Tuesday in a 2-0 loss to James Madison the Hoyas split time in the net between junior Ryan Schewe and sophomore Luca Ulrich. Schewe did not allow a goal in the opening frame, but Ulrich saw two of seven shots sneak into the net.
Setting aside the five goal performance against Temple (W, 5-2 on Sept. 2), the Hoyas have scored one goal or less in each contest this season. The scoring has been spread around with eight Hoyas having at least one goal. Leading the way are freshmen Jacob Murrell and Jack Panayotou with two goals each.
The Weather, Very Peculiar
Due to persistent lightning surrounding Creighton University and Morrison Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 18, the Creighton and Connecticut was suspended in the 13th minute (12:59.4).
The match resumed at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 18, a delay of over 23 hours (23:47). Connecticut knotted the match in the 21st minute of play. The two teams went on to a 1-1 draw.
Domino Effect
The suspension of the match with Connecticut forced the Bluejays to cancel a match with Kansas City that was scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 6:30 p.m.
O'Malley Earns BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Creighton sophomore Owen O'Malley earned the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, September 19. It was O'Malley's first weekly honor as a Bluejay.
A wing back for the Bluejays, O'Malley led Creighton with five points in a 1-0-1 week. The North Carolina native collected a goal and an assist in the win over Omaha (6-1 on Wednesday, September 14) and tallied the lead goal for Creighton against Connecticut on Saturday, September 17. It was Owen's fourth and fifth goals of the season, as well as his third assist.
