Eleanor Hudepohl posts second third-place finish of the fall
OMAHA, Neb. -- Eleanor Hudepohl tied for third place to lead the Creighton women's golf team to an eighth-place finish at the rain-shortened Big O Classic on Tuesday.
The teams played 36 holes on Monday and most golfers had just started the back nine on Tuesday before rain and lightning suspended play just after 12:15 p.m. After waiting through the rain and meeting as a group, the decision was then made to discontinue play for the day and end the event, with all scores reverting to Monday's results.
Hudepohl, who won the event last year, continued her dominance in the event with a tie for third place following loops of 73 and 77. The junior has now finished in the top-13 in each of her last 11 events. Her first round 73 was the Cincinnati native's 11th career round of par or better, extending a program record.
A pair of freshmen tied for 42nd place. Katharine Marshall had rounds of 78 and 83, while classmate Abby Aeschleman flipped that performance with circuits of 83 and 78. Aeschleman was competing as an individual for CU and did not factor in the Bluejay team scoring.
Freshman Annie Dawson tied for 46th place with scores of 79 and 83, while sophomore teammate Annika Yturralde compiled scores of 83 and 84 to tie for 55th place.
Rounding out the Bluejay contingent in their lone home meet of the fall was Karsen Morrison. The North Platte product tied for 62nd place, improving on her first round 89 with a second round 83.
St. Thomas won the 12-team tournament with a 599 total (298-301=599) , 11 shots better than Summit League rival South Dakota State (307-303=610). Creighton was eighth with a 313-326=639 aggregate, just behind Montana (321-311=632).
St. Thomas had three of the top five finishers, including the top two. Niki Reineke (72-75=147) shot a 1-over 147 to edge teammate Kathryn VanArragon (73-76=149) by two shots. The field consisted of 69 players on the Par 73 Oak Hills Country Club course that measured 6,077 yards.
