Men’s Tennis Sweeps BIG EAST Weekly Honor For Second Straight Week

Matthew Lanahan earns BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week; Oscar Alvarez and Zachary Kuo named BIG EAST Doubles Team of the Week
OMAHA, Neb. – Creighton men's tennis junior Matthew Lanahan earned his second consecutive BIG EAST Male Singles Player of the Week, while graduate transfer Oscar Alvarez and freshman Zachary Kuo were named the BIG EAST Male Doubles Team of the Week.
Lanahan has now been named the BIG EAST Player of the Week three times this season (Feb. 13, March 6 and March 13), while Alvarez and Kuo are each earning their first BIG EAST Doubles Team of the Week honor.
Lanahan, a Chula Vista, Calif. native repeated as the BIG EAST Player of the Week after leading the No. 65 ranked Bluejays to a perfect 3-0 record, completing sweeps over Rochester, Stonehill and IUPUI while on their annual Spring Break Trip to Orlando, Florida.
The junior logged his ninth straight single victory with a 3-0 mark at the top singles position last week. Lanahan collected a pair of straight-set victories, defeating Rochester's Krish Vennam 6-0, 6-3 and Stonehill's Mateo Mallen 6-1, 6-4 on back-to-back days, before overcoming an early deficit with a 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 10-4 win over IUPUI's Alex Jochim on March 10.
Alvarez and Kuo teamed up for a pair of wins as the Bluejays have now earned the doubles point in six straight matches. The duo opened the week with a 6-2 triumph over Stonehill's Mallen and Guillaume de Benaze at the top doubles position on March 7, before registering a 6-3 match-opening victory over IUPUI's Nicholas Moody and Kamil Kozerski on March 10.
No. 65 ranked Creighton will return to action on Friday, March 24 when they host Illinois State at 12:30 p.m. at the Hanscom Tennis Center.
