Men's Golf Finishes 10th at Hawkeye Invitational

Shaun Campbell leads team with 2-over 218
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Shaun Campbell and Charlie Zielinski helped lead Creighton to a 10th place finish at the Hawkeye Invitational, which concluded on Saturday. The event, originally scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, was moved to Friday and Saturday to play the event in optimal weather conditions.
Campbell shot back-to-back even par rounds of 72 before a closing 74 to tie for 25th place overall. The junior has now shot par or better in 9-of-24 rounds this season and owns a team-best 73.71 scoring average.
Zielinski tied for 31st place with a 219 aggregate. Following an opening round 78, Zielinski led CU with loops of 71 and 70 to close the tournament and now owns 28 career rounds of par or better in 24 career tournaments. He placed second among all competitors with 15 birdies during the event.
Tying for 46th place with a 223 total were freshman Grant Feldman (77-73-73) and sophomore Cole Davis (74-77-72).
Graduate student Tristan Nelko started with back-to-back circuits of 75 before finishing up with a 78 to tie for 63rd place.
Competing as an individual but not factoring into Creighton's team score was sophomore Jake Boor. The Creighton Prep product tied for 63rd place after compiling rounds of 76, 77 and 75 for a 228 total. His final round 75 was his best in 18 rounds at the collegiate level, and he led the tournament field by finishing -10 on par 5s.
Thirteen teams and 75 individuals played in the event at Finkbine Golf Course, which measured 7,174 yards on its par 72 layout. Creighton's final round 289 helped the Bluejays finish in 10th place overall with an 878 total. Host Iowa (277-282-276) won the tournament by five shots with an 835 total, edging Kansas (284-283-273). Hawkeye senior Mac McClear posted a one-shot victory thanks to rounds of 71, 68 and 67 for a 206 total, just ahead of Kansas junior Gunnar Broin (72-72-63).
Creighton returns to the court next weekend for the Robert Kepler Invitational in Columbus, Ohio, on April 21-23.
