Huskies score four runs in 8th inning to move into first place
OMAHA, Neb. -- No. 9 Connecticut scored four runs in the eighth inning to rally for a 6-3 win over host Creighton on Friday evening at Charles Schwab Field Omaha.
The victory moved the Huskies (39-13, 14-5 BIG EAST) into first place in the BIG EAST and prevented Creighton (25-23, 10-10 BIG EAST) from clinching a spot in the BIG EAST Tournament heading into Saturday's regular-season finale. Bluejay sophomore Dominic Cancellieri worked into the eighth inning before being lifted after a one-out hit-by-pitch on his 116th and final pitch put the tying run on base. CU's bullpen struggled to find the strike zone, walking in back-to-back runs to tie the score before pinch-hitter Ryan Daniels delivered a two-run go-ahead single to give the Huskies a 5-3 lead.
UConn then added an insurance run in the top of the ninth inning when Jake Studley's RBI groundout accounted for the final margin.
