Bluejay Baseball Drops Finale to Xavier, 3-1

Omaha, Neb. -- Creighton Baseball faltered in the series finale with Xavier on Sunday, May 7 as the Bluejays were defeated 3-1.
The loss moved Creighton to 22-18 on the season and 9-6 in BIG EAST action, while Xavier closed the series 30-17 overall and 11-4 in conference play.
Xavier scored single runs in the third, fourth and seventh innings on Sunday, taking the lead in the third with a pair of two-out walks and an RBI single by Andrew Walker.
The Musketeers pushed their lead to 2-0 in the fourth on a solo home run from Jared Cushing, then Walker delivered his second RBI single of the game in the seventh.
Creighton's tally came in the seventh as seniors Jack Grace and Sterling Hayes opened the frame, followed by a pair of productive outs. Sophomore Hogan Helligso collected the RBI with a grounder to short.
Bluejay starter Justin Kleinsorge took the loss (1-2), allowing two runs on two hits and four walks in 4.2 innings, while Xavier starter Luke Hoskins collected the win (5-2). Hoskins did not allow a run over 5.2 frames. Musketeer closer Justin Loer picked up his third save of the seaon with 2.2 innings of scoreless relief.
Creighton returns to the diamond on Tuesday, May 9 as the Bluejays resume their game from April 18 with Nebraska at 5:00 pm at Charles Schwab Field Omaha. The two teams will also play the regularly scheduled game, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
