
Men’s Tennis Claims ITA All-Academic Team Award, Seven Individuals Honored

Seven men's tennis players were named scholar-athletes
TEMPE, Ariz. – The Creighton men's tennis team claimed a 2023 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team award and seven individuals from the men's squad earned scholar-athlete awards, the ITA announced on July 10.
Graduate transfers Oscar Alvarez and Ricky Rubio earned their fifth straight ITA Scholar-Athlete Award, while recent graduate Casey Ross secure the third scholar-athlete honor of his career. Senior Matthew Lanahan claimed his third consecutive scholar-athlete honor while Ethan Neil and Zack Maline each secured their second straight ITA Scholar-Athlete award. Freshman Zachary Kuo also claimed scholar-athlete recognition for the first time in his young career.
The Bluejays held a 3.36 GPA during the spring and a 3.49 GPA last fall. This is the 15th consecutive year that Creighton has collected ITA All-Academic Team Recognition.
Creighton's seven honorees were the third-most in the BIG EAST, trailing only Xavier's league-leading 10 and DePaul's eight honorees.
This year the ITA saw and increase in qualifying teams and scholar-athletes. All-Academic honors were awarded to 162 teams and 959 scholar-athletes at the Division I level.
All-Academic teams boasted a team GPA of 3.20 or higher. ITA Scholar-Athletes must meet the following criteria: 1.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 2.) be listed on the institutional eligibility form.
