Ten individuals from the women's team earned scholar-athlete awards
TEMPE, Ariz. – The Creighton women's tennis team earned a 2023 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team award while 10 individuals claimed ITA Scholar-Athlete honors, the ITA announced on July 10.
The Bluejay women accumulated a 3.75 GPA during the spring and a 3.69 GPA last fall. The award marks the 16th consecutive year that Creighton has attained ITA All-Academic Team recognition on the women's side.
Recent graduates Kate Krueger and Leanne Kendall each earned ITA Scholar-Athlete status for the fourth consecutive year, while Malvika Shukla was recognized for the third year in a row. Valerie Negin, Bianca Rademacher and Allison Wilcox claimed honors for the second time in their career, while Annika Elvestrom, Siri Kongara and Ana Paula Martinez each earned their first ITA Scholar-Athlete Award. Former Bluejay standout Sarah Wilcox also received her fifth consecutive ITA Scholar-Athlete award.
Creighton's 10 honorees were the most among the BIG EAST women's tennis programs and tied for eighth-most nationally with Arizona, Hofstra and Saint Joseph's.
Within the sport of tennis, student-athletes continue to exceed expectations in the classroom and on the court. In 2023, 1,513 Division I Women's student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, and 234 women's tennis programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction.
