Creighton Softball Set To Host First Hit-A-Thon On October 19
9/27/2023 2:55:00 PM | Softball
OMAHA, Neb. -- Led by Creighton softball head coach Krista Wood, the Creighton Softball team will be hosting it's first Hit-A-Thon fundraiser on Thursday, October 19 at 4:30 p.m. at the Creighton Sports Complex in Omaha.Â
Â
The Hit-A-Thon is an initiative designed to raise funds for program enhancements that includes equipment upgrades, increased travel budgets and community outreach opportunities.
Â
During this year's event, each player will get pledges from individuals in the community and the players will have 10 swings to hit the ball as far as possible. The distance of the farthest ball hit is then multiplied by the amount of your pledge. For example, if a ball is hit 250 feet and a donor pledges $1 per foot, then the donation would be $250. Flat donations will be accepted as well.Â
Â
Coach Wood has her lineup set and it features a few big-time power hitters. Head men's basketball coach Greg McDermott and head women's basketball coach Jim Flanery, as well as men's basketball star Baylor Scheierman have all been signed to a one-day deal that will allow them to swing for the fences.Â
Â
The general public is invited to come out and watch the Hit-A-Thon on Oct. 19, but incase you are unable to attend, the event will be streamed live on YouTube with the help of Creighton's Athletic Broadcast team.Â
Â
If you haven't had the chance to make a pledge and would like to participate, please contact Coach Wood via email at kristawood@creighton.edu and you will be matched with a player. To make a donation to the Creighton softball team visit https://gocreighton.com/Donate2023Hit-A-Thon. Specify that your gift will be designated to the softball program.
