Men's Soccer Rallies for 2-2 Draw at Denver

Denver, Colo. -- Trailing 2-1 with under five minutes to play the pressure applied by Creighton Men's Soccer finally broke through as freshman Miguel Arilla punched in his first goal as a Bluejay to deliver a 2-2 draw at Denver on Monday, September 4th.
Following Monday's action the Bluejays at 0-2-2 in 2023, while Denver moved to 2-0-2.
Denver controlled the first half, scoring a pair of first half goals and out shooting Creighton 11-4. The Pioneers got on the board in the 9th minute (8:56) as Holger Olsson pushed in a pass from Aidan O'Toole. Creighton answered in the 28th minute (27:25) as senior Luke Mitchell sent a pass from Jackson Castro into the back of the net.
The Pioneers, however, wasted no time recapturing the lead as Sam Bassett finished a pass from Lukas Fisher just 35 seconds later to make it 2-1 with 28 minutes even on the clock.
The script of the match flipped at halftime as Creighton asserted their dominance. The Bluejays out shot Denver 8-4 in the second half, creating five corners to just one of the Pioneers. Late in the match the pressure paid off as senior Giorgio Probo drew a foul just outside the box, setting the stage for Arilla.
Coming into Monday's match, Denver had allowed just one goal on the season, but Creighton pushed a pair across.
Creighton returns home as the Bluejays host Michigan in the 11th Annual Socctoberfest on Friday, September 8th at 7:00 p.m.
