Terrell Shines in Scoreless Socctoberfest Battle With Minnesota

OMAHA, Neb. – Graduate senior Keelan Terrell made six dazzling saves as the Creighton Women's soccer team battled Minnesota to a scoreless draw in the Bluejays ninth annual Socctoberfest on Friday night inside Morrison Stadium.
The draw moves Creighton to 0-2-4 on the year, while Minnesota moved to 4-1-2 overall. The four draws for the Bluejays are tied for the second most in a single season in program history, trailing only last season's eight ties.
Neither squad was able to push across a goal in the opening 45 minutes, despite both teams having multiple scoring opportunities. Senior Abigail Santana nearly gave Creighton a 1-0 lead in the match off with a header from eight yards out, while junior Azumi Manriki blasted a shot from just outside the 18-yard box in the early minutes of play.
Minnesota countered late in the first half with a pair of shots on goal, including a one-on-one opportunity with Terrell. Terrell calmly smothered the scoring chance to keeping the Golden Gophers off the scoreboard.
The Golden Gophers looked to have taken a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute with a goal off a header by Khyah Harper, but the goal was called off due to a Minnesota foul.
Minnesota held a 7-3 advantage in shots and a slim 3-2 edge in corner kicks in the opening frame.
The early portions of the second half saw Creighton increase its offensive intensity. Senior Lara Kazandjian and Santana came out of the locker room firing, blasting a pair of shots on goal.
Minnesota quickly responded and put some pressure on the Bluejays defense with flurry of shots inside the box that were all denied by Terrell.
Locked into a scoreless battle with five minutes remaining, Creighton had one final push to secure the win. Santana once again nearly put the Bluejays out in front in the 88th minute with a shot wide right from just outside the six-yard box. With time running out freshman Clara Kulick fired once final attempt at goal but missed just wide.
Minnesota closed the match with a 14-10 advantage in shots and a 5-3 edge in corners, while Creighton collected seven saves, including the third team save of the year.
Creighton returns to action on Sunday afternoon, traveling north to battle North Dakota State at 1 p.m. in Fargo, N.D.
