Brake and Ronsiek Guide #22 Women's Basketball to 89-53 Win Over Butler

Omaha, Neb. -- Senior forwards Mallory Brake and Emma Ronsiek combined for 37 points, 12 rebounds and four steals without a turnover to guide #22 Creighton to an impressive 89-53 win over Butler on Wednesday, January 10.
The victory pushed the Bluejays to 12-3 on the season and 3-2 in BIG EAST action, while Butler fell to 8-7 overall and 0-4 in conference play.
Creighton took control of the contest early with a 14-4 surge to open the game, getting five points from senior Lauren Jensen and four from Ronsiek. The Bulldogs rallied within seven by the close of the first quarter as the Bluejays led 18-11.
Butler opened the second with back-to-back treys to make it a one-point game (18-17), forcing head coach Jim Flanery to use a timeout. The Bluejays responded with back-to-back interior buckets to make it 22-17. Leading 24-22 moments later (6:08), Creighton pushed its edge back to double digits with 11 of the next 12 points. Ronsiek led the charge with six of her 16 first half points.
Creighton put the game away by outscoring Butler, 52-28 in the second half, stretching its advantage to as much as 41 points (89-48) in the closing moments of the game. The Bluejays knocked down nine treys in the second half, going 9-for-15 over the final 20 minutes.
Ronsiek led all scorers with 25 points and six rebounds, while Jensen and Brake had 14 and 12 points respectively. Butler's Rachel Kent led the Bulldogs with 10 points.
Creighton returns to the hardwood on Sunday, January 14 against Providence at 1:00 p.m. in D.J. Sokol Arena.
