Bluejay Women's Hoops Defeats Southwest Minnesota State in Exhibition Contest, 92-51

Omaha, Neb. -- Delivering a work-woman like performance, #21 Creighton took care of Southwest Minnesota State 92-51 on Wednesday, October 30 in the lone exhibition game for both teams.
A close opening stanza saw Creighton battle through a cold start with defense as the Bluejays forced eight Mustang turnovers in the period. The Bluejays' largest lead of the first quarter was four at 14-10 and 16-12.
Creighton came out quickly with an 8-0 at the onset of the second, getting treys from junior Kennedy Townsend and senior Lauren Jensen to surround a jumper from Mallory Brake. The Bluejay surge forced Southwest Minnesota State head coach Tom Webb to use a timeout as the Creighton lead grew to 24-12 (8:28). Following the timeout Jensen added another five consecutive points, pushing the run to 13-0 and giving the Bluejays a 29-12 advantage (7:21). The largest lead of the half came in the closing seconds as Townsend and junior Kiani Lockett capped an 8-0 run to send the Bluejays into the locker room at the break with a 49-29 lead.
Eight points in the third quarter from Jensen helped Creighton extend its lead 31 points at 69-38, capped by a 5-0 run courtesy of a three-pointer by Molly Mogensen and a driving layup from grad transfer Sydney Golladay.
The final frame saw Creighton push its lead to as much as 41 three times, including the final score of 92-51.
Jensen and Maly led the way with 21 and 16 points respectively, while Townsend closed the game with 12 points. Each Bluejay scored at least two points in the victory. The Mustangs got a team-high 11 points from Peyton Blandin and Audrey Swanson.
Creighton opens the regular season at South Dakota State on Friday, November 8 at 6:00 p.m. in Brookings, S.D.
