Baseball Opens 2024 Season With Weekend Series at Coppin State

Omaha, Neb. -- Creighton Baseball begins its 21st season under head coach Ed Servais with a three-game series at Coppin State during the first weekend of the 2024 season. This is the first meeting between Creighton and Coppin State.

Scouting the Bluejays
(2024: 0-0, 0-0 BIG EAST)
After missing the BIG EAST Tournament for the second time in program history last season, the Bluejays would like nothing more than a response similar to 2019 when Creighton reach the Oregon State regional final.
Creighton returns Dominic Cancellieri and Cade Lommel to the rotation, while transfer Jimmy Burke is scheduled to get the ball on Saturday.
The Creighton lineup features a strong core with three of the four top hitters from last season. Back for another season are junior
catcher Hogan Helligso, designated hitter Jack Grace, shortstop Nolan Clifford as well as outfielders Nolan Sailors and Tate Gillen.
Scouting the Eagles
(2024: 0-0, 0-0 NEC)
After closing the 2023 season at 21-31, Coppin State was picked to finish seventh in the Northeast Conference preseason poll.
The Eagles finished in a tie for sixth place in their inaugural season as an associate member of the NEC in 2023, missing out on the conference tournament via tiebreakers.

Coppin State returns three of its top six hitters from last season, including senior outfielder Brody Black who hit .304 with 13 doubles, three home runs and 32 RBI while leading the team with 16 stolen bases. Â
Sophomore infielder Angel Colon hit .281 in his first collegiate season and Liam McCallum was a key two-way performer last season, accumulating a .429 on-base percentage while striking out 30 batters in 39.1 innings. Nico Felber leads the returnees on the pitching staff after going 2-3 with a 4.24 ERA and 45 strikeouts while leading the Navy & Gold with a 1.27 WHIP.
