Men’s Tennis Outlasted By Omaha, 4-3

OMAHA, Neb. – The Creighton men's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to Omaha in an intense battle on Saturday night at the Miracle Hills Tennis Center.
The loss moves the Bluejays to 7-4 on the year, while the Mavericks improved to 10-4 overall. It is the third straight road match against Omaha that the Mavericks have won 4-3.
The Bluejays came out strong, securing the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles positions. Senior Matthew Lanahan and sophomore Kirtan Patel teamed up for a 6-4 win at the top doubles position, while the duo of junior Alejandro Gandini and sophomore Yuma Daijima claimed a 6-3 victory on the No. 3 doubles court to clinch the first point of the match and their sixth straight doubles win of the season.
Following a loss at the No. 3 spot in singles action, Creighton claimed back-to-back victories on the No. 4 and No. 6 singles courts to regain a 3-1 advantage. Gandini captured a 6-2, 6-3 straight-sets triumph on the No. 4 singles court, while Daijima secured a 6-4, 6-2 straight-set victory on the No. 6 court.
Omaha's Mikhail Korkunov and Ethan Gaubert recorded victories at the No. 1 and No. 5 singles position to knot the match up at 3-3. Korkunov picked up a 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 win at the top singles spot, while Gaubert claimed a 6-2, 6-4 victory at the No. 5 singles court.
With the match level at 3-3 with only one match remaining, Omaha completed their come-from-behind victory with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) win at the No. 2 singles position.
Creighton returns to action on Monday, March 4 when they travel to the Nation's Capital to battle Georgetown in a BIG EAST conference match at 10:45 a.m.
