Bluejay Baseball Opens 2024 Home Schedule with Two-Game Series Against UMass Lowell

Omaha, Neb. -- After three road weeks, Creighton Baseball begins a 10-game home stand as the Bluejays begin with a pair of midweek contests against UMass Lowell on Tuesday, March 5 and Wednesday, March 6 in Charles Schwab Field Omaha.

Scouting the Bluejays
(2024: 7-1, 0-0 BIG EAST)
After three weeks of play in the 2024 season, a few things are clear.
The Bluejays can swing the stick. Creighton enters its home season fourth in the NCAA with a team average of .350. The Bluejays are also fifth in on-base percentage (.474), sixth in slugging percentage (.617), seventh in scoring (11.2 runs per game) and 15th in doubles per game (2.75).
The Bluejays can also pick it, leading the nation in fielding percentage at .992.
Individually Nolan Clifford is second in the NCAA in average at .571 and third in on-base percentage (.667).
On the bump the Bluejays have a team ERA of 4.93, led by an impressive 1.50 ERA from staff ace Dominic Cancellieri and a 0.00 ERA from Sunday starter Jack Pineau.
Scouting the River Hawks
(2024: 3-7)
After taking three of four from High Point, the River Hawks have dropped six consecutive games. UMass Lowell suffered road sweeps by William & Mary as well as Kansas State.
As a team River Hawks come to Omaha hitting .223 as a team. Two regulars bring an average at or above .300 with Carlos
Martinez leading the way at .325. He also has three home runs and 10 RBI to guide UMass Lowell. The second leading bat for the River Hawks is Alex Luccini (.300).
On the mound UMass Lowell has a team ERA of 7.53, with 66 walks in 86 innings.
Trio of Bluejays Named to Battle at the Ballpark All Tournament Team
The trio of Nolan Clifford, Ben North and Nolan Sailors were rewarded for a 2-1 showing during the Battle at the Ballpark (March 1-3).
Sailors led Creighton to a 2-1 mark in the Battle at the Ballpark, hitting .500 (6-for-12) with one home run, three doubles, three runs scored and four RBI. Nolan collected at least one hit in each of the Bluejays' three games in Texas.
Clifford went 5-for-10 (.500) with two runs scored and two RBI, while North was 3-for-9 (.333) with four runs scored.

Canales Took the Stage with Two Blasts Against Army
Getting his second start of the 2024 season, senior Colby Canales made the most of it against Army on Sunday, March 3. Canales launched a pair of home runs, collecting three RBI in the Bluejays' 9-3 win.
Canales smashed two home runs last season in 23 games for Creighton and four during 2021 as a member of the Pacific
Tigers.
Historic Start to 2024
Opening the season with seven wins in eight games, the 2024 team has tied the best eight game start under head coach Ed Servais. The only other time under Servais that the Bluejays began a season at 7-1 was in 2011 as Creighton started 9-1.
In 2000 under Jack Dahm the Bluejays opened the season 15-1, while the 1991 team led by Jim Hendry started 11-1.
