Lily West Named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
OMAHA, Neb. --Â Freshman catcher and designated player Sydney Potter has been named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week after guiding the Bluejays to a 3-1 record at the Cougar Invite. Sophomore Lily West was also named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.Â
Â
Potter, a Runnells, Iowa, native, started all four games for the Bluejays at the Cougar Invite, pacing the squad with a .636 (7-of-11) batting average with two doubles, three home runs, three walks, five runs scored and 11 RBI.Â
Â
The freshman slugger started the weekend with a 1-for-3 showing at the plate, with her lone hit came in a big way as she blasted a three-run shot to left to record the first home run of her Bluejay career.Â
Â
Potter followed that up by recording the first multi-hit game of her career, lining a two-run double down the left field line and blasting a solo home run while also scoring three runs of her own in an 16-8 win over St. Thomas.Â
Â
In the Bluejays' 8-2 win over Illinois State, Potter continued to show out collecting a season-high four RBI on another two hits, including her second three-run home run of the weekend. With the three-run blast, Potter became just the seventh Bluejay since joining the BIG EAST to hit a home run in three consecutive games.Â
Â
Potter would then close out the Cougar invite by going 2-for-3 with another RBI double to end the weekend. In total, Potter raised her batting average from .083 to .257 while recording 11 of her team-high 13 RBI on the weekend.Â
Â
This marks the first BIG EAST honor Potter has receive, while she is the second Bluejays this season to earn BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors as Kaelan Schultz claimed the honor on Feb. 12.Â
Â
West also earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly honor after finishing last weekend with a .500 batting average on 8-of-16 hitting, with two doubles, six runs scored and six RBI.  The sophomore catcher opened the weekend with a 3-for-4 showing with a double and a career-high tying three RBI and two runs scored in a 13-1 win over Loyola Chicago. She then followed that performance by recording a career-high four hits and four runs scored while driving in another three runs in Creighton's 16-8 victory over St. Thomas on Saturday.Â
Â
Potter, West and the rest of the Bluejays returns to the field tomorrow night when they take on Kansas at 5 p.m. in Lawrence, Kan.Â
