Softball Drops Midweek Contest At Kansas

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Creighton softball team dropped a midweek battle at Kansas, 8-0, in six innings on Tuesday night.
The loss drops the Bluejays to 11-7, while the Jayhawks improved to 13-5-1 overall with the win.
Kansas jumped on the Bluejays from the start, plating three runs in the bottom of the first innings on three hits and a pair of Creighton errors. Reaching on a fielding error and a single, Anyslee Linduff and Lyric Moore came around to score the first runs of the game on an RBI single by Campbell Bagshaw. After advancing to second on a throwing error, Bagshaw also came around to score on an RBI single to right by Ashlyn Anderson to take a 3-0 lead.
Bluejay starter Brooklyn Patchen would settle in over the next three innings, before the Jayhawks added three additional runs in the fifth to extend their lead. An RBI single by Bagshaw pushed the lead to 4-0 before Sophoa Buzard reached on an error to score a run and Sara Roszak delivered a sacrifice fly to make it 6-0.
Kansas would then secure the victory with two runs in the bottom of the sixth innings on a two-run double to right by Anna Soles to claim the 8-0 win.
Sophomore Lily West recorded two of the Bluejays three hits in the contest, Patchen suffered the first loss allowing six runs, three earned, on seven hits and three walks in 5.0 innings of work.
The Bluejays return to action on Friday, March 8 at 1 p.m. when they open BIG EAST play with a three-game series at St. John's.
